Match the Architecture, Not the Appearance
AC 800M selection connects four decisions: the PM processor package, CI communication role, TB/BC/TU bus hardware and the S800 I/O signal path. A precise request begins with the complete label and installed system architecture. |
Start with the complete ABB model and article number, then record whether the station is single or redundant, the engineering-system version, communication protocol, CEX-Bus arrangement and installed S800 I/O. Similar housings do not establish interchangeability. This workflow is useful for new projects, shutdown planning, expansions and replacement reviews in process plants, utilities and other continuous-control environments.
Where project drawings and installed labels disagree, photograph the complete assembly and treat the installed article numbers as the starting point for engineering review.

ABB AC 800M processor offerings range from single configurations to redundant and High Integrity packages. Confirm the full kit suffix, processor article number, redundancy requirement and all package contents. K01 and K02 designations can identify different packaged arrangements, so a CPU family name alone is not an adequate ordering reference.
A CI module must match the required protocol and its role in the control network. Record whether the interface is used for PROFIBUS, Ethernet or another supported connection, and confirm master/slave function, connector arrangement, line or module redundancy and approved system version. Do not infer compatibility from connector shape.
TB and BC items support termination, CEX-Bus or ModuleBus connections, while TU units provide the field termination interface for S800 I/O. Match the exact installed assembly, cable and redundancy layout. Replacing only the visible module without checking adjacent bus hardware can leave an otherwise correct order incomplete.
Choose the I/O function first—analog input, analog output, digital input or digital output—then verify channel count, signal type, voltage range, redundancy, HART or other required functions and the approved module termination unit. The module and MTU must be reviewed as one field-wiring combination; catalog similarity is not evidence of interchangeability.
Before releasing an RFQ, reconcile the installed cabinet with the approved project documentation. Confirm processor performance class, redundancy topology, safety classification, firmware and the applicable Control Builder or System 800xA version. For CI interfaces, capture protocol, node role, cable and connector. For each S800 station, record its communication interface, ModuleBus or PROFIBUS arrangement, I/O code, TU/MTU code, signal type, field power and any intrinsic-safety requirement. Treat hot replacement, online upgrade and mixed-revision operation as questions requiring documented approval, not assumptions.
Before ordering, confirm the complete model, ABB article number, series, firmware, system software, quantity and label information.
