System Hardware Architecture Achieves Comprehensive Redundancy Design

The UNITROL® 5000 features a revolutionary redundancy configuration in its hardware architecture. The regulator adopts a design concept combining a dual-channel system with a backup current regulator. A signal processor digitizes the three-phase voltage and current measurements, ensuring accurate data acquisition. The power unit supports up to eight parallel power converters, and its redundancy configuration is completely independent of the regulator system, forming a dual protection mechanism. The intelligent power converter electronics have active current balancing capabilities, support four-quadrant operation, and integrate comprehensive protection functions such as thyristor current monitoring, fan control, fuse status monitoring, and temperature and cooling airflow monitoring, building a solid barrier for stable system operation.

 

Software Function Integration Provides Comprehensive Intelligent Protection

The system's standard software integrates comprehensive regulation, protection, and monitoring functions, constructing a multi-layered safety protection system. The voltage regulator is equipped with a PID filter, and the magnetic field current regulator uses a PI filter, combined with reactive/active load descent compensation functions, ensuring optimal performance under various operating conditions. The system incorporates multiple limiters, including maximum and minimum magnetic field current limits, stator current limits, P/Q underexcitation limits, and volt-hertz characteristic protection. Monitoring and protection functions are categorized into three action levels based on severity: fault display only, switching to a backup channel or regulator, and immediate tripping and demagnetizing. This tiered response mechanism ensures safety while minimizing unnecessary downtime.

 

Advanced Data Logging and Diagnostic Functions Enhance Operational Efficiency

The UNITROL® 5000 is equipped with powerful data logging and diagnostic functions, significantly improving system maintainability. The event logger can store up to 100 events and alarms with real-time timestamps, and the data logger can simultaneously record real-time data from six measurement signals. This data can be read and analyzed via the control panel or CMT software, whose trend window function provides an intuitive graphical representation for fault diagnosis. The processor has a comprehensive self-test mechanism that automatically executes a self-test program upon power-up, continuously monitors all supply voltages, and ensures correct program execution through an internal watchdog function, building a comprehensive monitoring network from hardware to software.

 

Flexible Communication and Stabilizer Options Enhance System Adaptability

This system demonstrates exceptional flexibility in communication and system expansion. Supporting multiple common upper-level control system communication protocols, the system allows for the installation of a second control panel in a control room hundreds of meters away, and enables internet-based remote diagnostics via the "AVRview" software. In terms of functional expansion, the system offers three different types of power system stabilizer options: a traditional stabilizer compliant with the IEEE PSS2A standard, employing fixed parameters and adjustable lead/lag filters; an adaptive stabilizer that dynamically adjusts parameters by continuously calculating the operating point and grid conditions; and a multi-band stabilizer that effectively dampens electromechanical oscillations across the entire frequency range of 0.05 to 4.0 Hz through three independently adjustable operating frequency bands. These advanced features make the UNITROL® 5000 a reliable guarantee for the stable operation of modern power systems.
