8709-CA-08 Functional Description
The MODULE CARRIER 8709-CA-08 General Electric is a robust SafetyNet controller carrier designed for reliable and flexible use in industrial safety systems. It supports either 32- or 64-module addressing, but for 64-slot addressing, only the GE 8709-CA-08 PDF carriers can be used exclusively, ensuring system integrity without mixing with 32-slot carriers. The carrier’s design allows mounting on T- or G-section DIN rails or directly onto flat surfaces, providing versatile installation options. Additionally, carriers can be joined end-to-end to extend installation size, making them adaptable for various cabinet designs.
Bussed Field Power (BFP) connections on the General Electric 8709-CA-08 Module Carriers supply power to modules requiring it, with each connection serving two adjacent module slots. This requires modules sharing the same BFP supply to be paired accordingly. The carrier also features terminals to securely terminate cable screens and shields, ensuring proper grounding and shielding of signals.
Field terminals are easily clicked into place on the 8709-CA-08 GE Fanuc I/O Carrier and secured by inserting the I/O modules, which are fastened by screws for a secure fit. This simple installation method enhances system reliability and maintenance efficiency.
Because the 8709-CA-08 GE MTL8000 Module Carriers and Cables contains no active components, it offers very high reliability. It carries control signals and data via the Railbus, distributes system power, and provides isolated earthing bars for cable screens and shields, ensuring safe and stable operation in demanding industrial environments.

Module Carrier Design and Installation Flexibility
These module carriers are specifically designed to support 2/2 modules and accommodate either 32- or 64-module addressing systems. When a node requires 64-slot addressing, only these particular carrier types should be used exclusively, as they cannot be mixed with carriers intended for 32-slot addressing. To enhance cabinet design flexibility, a variety of extender carriers and cables are available, allowing for customizable installation layouts. The carriers can be mounted on T-section or G-section DIN rails or directly attached to flat surfaces, providing versatile mounting options. Additionally, multiple carriers can be connected end-to-end to increase the overall size of the installation, making these carriers adaptable to a wide range of industrial and control system configurations.
