Advantages of 8 mm Proximity Probes
The 3300-series 5 mm probe, as referenced in Document 141605, offers a smaller physical design, but it does not reduce the side view clearance or tip-to-tip spacing requirements when compared with an 8 mm probe. Its primary use is in applications where physical space limitations prevent the installation of a larger probe, making it suitable for areas with restricted mounting conditions. However, when the application calls for narrow side view probes, the recommended solution is the 3300 NSv Proximity Transducer System, as detailed in Document 147385. On the other hand, 8 mm probes provide a thicker encapsulation of the probe coil in the molded PPS plastic probe tip, making them more rugged and durable. The increased probe body diameter also delivers a stronger and more robust case. For this reason, 8 mm probes are generally recommended whenever possible, as they offer greater reliability and enhanced protection against physical damage in demanding industrial environments.
