Physical Characteristics and Selection Guidelines for 3300 Series Probes
The 3300 series offers both 5 mm and 8 mm proximity probes, each designed for specific application requirements. While the 5 mm probe features a smaller physical package for installations with severe spatial limitations, it is important to note that this reduced diameter does not decrease the necessary side view clearances or tip-to-tip spacing compared to the 8 mm version. Consequently, the 5 mm probe should only be selected when physical constraints absolutely prevent the use of an 8 mm probe. For applications demanding even narrower side view clearances, the specialized 3300 NSv Proximity Transducer System is recommended. In contrast, the 8 mm probe provides significantly enhanced durability through a thicker encapsulation of the probe coil within its molded PPS plastic tip and a larger, more robust probe body that offers greater resistance to physical impact. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to use 8 mm probes whenever possible to ensure maximum robustness and long-term reliability in demanding industrial environments.
