The 330101-00-05-11-00 is a high-performance Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm proximity probe featuring an oil-impermeable FluidLoc cable design. Fully compatible with the 3300 XL Proximitor system, this unarmored forward-mount sensor works seamlessly in space-constrained, fluid-exposed machinery environments to deliver clean cable routing and stable shaft displacement communication.

FAQ

Q1: What is the correct initial calibration voltage required for setting up this 3300 XL probe?

A: For a standard Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm proximity transducer system calibrated to an AISI 4140 steel target, the correct initial calibration voltage is -9 VDC (corresponding to a 1.27 mm or 50 mils physical gap). Connect a digital multimeter to the Proximitor sensor's OUT and COM terminals, then slowly rotate the probe into the mounting thread until the multimeter reads -9 VDC before tightening the locknut.

Q2: Why am I getting "false vibration" or high shaft runout readings during slow roll or barring?

A: This is usually caused by mechanical or electrical runout on the shaft target area. Eddy current probes are highly sensitive to microscopic surface imperfections. Scratch marks, rust, residual magnetism, or localized heat-treatment variations on the shaft track will be misread by the sensor as real dynamic vibration. Ensure the probe track is precision-ground and demagnetized according to API 670 standards, or utilize your monitoring software to perform a slow roll runout compensation.

Q3: What happens if the side clearance or counterbore around the probe head is too tight?

A: If the counterbore diameter is too small or if the probe tip is too close to an unintended shaft shoulder, it triggers a "Side Effect" (cross-talk with the housing). The electromagnetic field emitted from the 8mm tip will couple with the surrounding metallic walls, leading to reduced scale sensitivity or a completely distorted calibration curve. The counterbore diameter must be at least three times the probe tip diameter (minimum 24mm for this 8mm probe) to prevent physical signal dampening.

Q4: How do I prevent electromagnetic interference (cross-talk) between two adjacent X-Y probes?

A: When configuring two 3300 XL probes at 90° for radial vibration tracking on the same bearing housing, ensure their center-to-center physical distance is at least 38 mm (1.5 inches) apart. If they are mounted too closely, their high-frequency RF fields will overlap, causing severe phase errors or a cyclic "beating" wave in your monitoring data. If your machine geometry forces a tighter spacing, a special frequency-staggered Proximitor setup must be ordered.

Q5: Can the pre-installed connector protectors or additional silicone tape be exposed directly to hot turbine oil?

A: The factory fluorosilicone connector protectors provide excellent defense in humid or moist zones, but require care around harsh turbine oils. If you apply auxiliary silicone tape to supplement the seal, remember that silicone tape is explicitly not recommended for applications exposing the joint directly to active turbine oil washdowns inside the machine casing, as it may degrade the junction over time.
