Seamless Upgrade from ABB S400 to S800 I/O Systems
ABB’s trusted S400 I/O system, in service since 1986, has long been valued for its reliability worldwide. However, with spares becoming scarce and lacking support for today’s industry-standard field buses, ABB has introduced the advanced S800 I/O system as a direct replacement. The upgrade is remarkably straightforward—users can keep their existing field wiring and connectors, simply unscrewing the old S400 unit and installing the new S800 module in the same footprint, utilizing the original DIN rails and screw holes. This minimizes downtime, allowing plants to resume operations swiftly. The S800 system also offers enhanced self-diagnostics, higher reliability, and enables HART® fieldbus communication, bringing intelligent device management to a central point. Each evolution unit includes plate-mounted S800 modules that precisely match the dimensions and mounting options of the S400, ensuring a perfect fit and pretested functionality right at the connector sockets.
