IS220PPROS1B Functional Description
The General Electric IS220PPROS1B Emergency Turbine Protection I/O Pack is a critical safety component within GE's Mark VIe distributed control system, designed to provide independent backup protection for gas and steam turbines. This robust I/O pack operates on 24V DC power and functions within a -30°C to 65°C temperature range, monitoring primary control systems while executing emergency trips through dedicated terminal boards (TREG/TREL/TRES/TREA). The Backup Turbine Protection Modules GE IS220PPROS1B implements triple modular redundant (TMR) architecture when configured with three packs, offering hardware-based overspeed, acceleration, and deceleration protection.
Measuring 14.3×23.1cm and weighing 0.45kg, the module supports two installation modes: direct mounting on SPRO/TREA boards or cable-connected configurations. Its DC-37 pin interfaces enable communication with emergency trip boards, while Ethernet IONet ports facilitate control network integration. The IS220PPROS1B General Electric I/O Pack features autonomous fault detection, capable of initiating trips independently of primary controls when abnormalities are detected in speed signals or controller performance.
Key functionalities include dual-network port operation for simplex or dual-main control setups, with the ability to monitor both R and S controllers simultaneously. The GE Printed Circuit Board Mark VI IS220PPROS1B threaded-post mounting system ensures secure mechanical attachment, while its soft-start power circuitry prevents inrush current spikes during activation. Configuration is performed via GE's ToolboxST® software, allowing customization for specific turbine protection scenarios.
As part of GE's Speedtronic™ series, the IS220PPROS1B Backup Turbine Protection Modules enhances turbine safety through redundant, fault-tolerant design. Its compliance with GEH-6721L specifications and USA-manufactured quality make it a reliable solution for power generation facilities requiring failsafe overspeed protection and generator synchronization monitoring.

Mark VIe I/O Module – Intelligent Network-Connected Control
The GE Mark VIe I/O module integrates advanced processing and network capabilities for industrial turbine control systems. Its processor board executes a structured startup sequence: activating a soft-start circuit to ramp up power, running self-tests, then loading application-specific code from flash memory that validates compatibility with connected acquisition and terminal boards via electronic ID verification. The module features dual 10/100 Ethernet ports operating simultaneously in full/half-duplex mode, providing active redundancy—if one network fails, the other maintains uninterrupted communication without traditional hot-backup switching delays.
The processor board contains a high-speed CPU with RAM/flash memory, watchdog timer, and embedded temperature sensor for reliability monitoring. Power management includes current-limited input with soft-start protection and local voltage regulation. Status LEDs provide real-time operational feedback, while electronic board ID reading ensures proper system configuration. Designed for Mark VIe distributed control systems, these I/O modules deliver superior fault tolerance through their dual-active Ethernet architecture and comprehensive self-diagnostics, making them ideal for critical turbine protection and process automation applications.
