Proximitor Sensor Probe Selection: 5 mm vs. 8 mm
The Proximitor sensor input is compatible with both non-contacting 3300-series 5 mm and 3300 XL 8 mm proximity probes. While the 5 mm probe offers a more compact physical package, it does not reduce required side clearances or tip-to-tip spacing compared to the 8 mm version. Its primary application is in installations where extreme spatial constraints prevent the use of an 8 mm probe. For applications requiring minimal side view clearance, the 3300 NSv Proximity Transducer System represents a more suitable alternative. The 8 mm probe provides significant advantages in durability, featuring a thicker encapsulation of the coil within molded PPS plastic and a larger, more robust body casing. This enhanced construction makes it substantially more resistant to physical damage in demanding industrial environments. Therefore, the 8 mm probe is highly recommended whenever installation space permits, ensuring greater long-term reliability and performance in machinery monitoring applications.
