1771-IB Functional Description
The 1771-IB 1771 Allen-Bradley Digital I/O DC Input and Output Modules is a digital DC input module designed for the PLC-5 control system. This I/O chassis backplane 1771-IB AB interfaces with a variety of field devices such as proximity switches, pushbuttons, and photoelectric sensors, converting their 12-24V DC signals into logic levels for the processor. It features 8 input points and includes input filtering to minimize the effects of electrical noise and contact bounce, ensuring signal integrity.
A key operational characteristic of the 1771-IB DC Input Module Allen Bradley is its defined input delay, which is nominally 12ms when turning on and 20ms when turning off. This specification is critical for applications requiring precise timing control. The module is designed for easy integration, receiving its operational power directly from the 1771 I/O chassis backplane, which simplifies wiring and reduces installation complexity.
The design of the Allen-Bradley Digital Input Module 1771-IB emphasizes both reliability and serviceability. It incorporates status indicators for efficient troubleshooting, allowing for quick diagnosis of field-side issues. Furthermore, its construction includes protection against off-state leakage current, specifying a maximum of 3mA to prevent false triggering and ensure stable operation in industrial environments.
Overall, the Digital Input Module ROCKWELL 1771-IB provides a robust and dependable solution for digital input requirements. Its compatibility with standard DC sinking devices and modular design makes it a versatile component for expanding control system capabilities, solidifying its role in a wide array of automation applications.

Keying Your I/O Chassis
Use the plastic keying bands, shipped with each I/O chassis, to key the I/O slots to accept only this type of module.
The module circuit board is slotted in two places on the rear edge. The position of the keying bands on the backplane connector must correspond to these slots to allow insertion of the module. You can key any connector in an I/O chassis to receive this module except for the left–most connector
reserved for adapter or processor modules. Place keying bands between the following numbers labeled on the backplane connector: Between 4 and 6 Between 14 and 16 You can change the position of these keys if system redesign and rewiring makes insertion of a different module necessary.
