Configurable Safety Responses in Series C Analog Output Modules
The Series C Analog Output modules incorporate a sophisticated FAILOPT safety parameter that provides flexible configuration options for each individual output channel. This critical safety feature enables system designers to predefine the module's response to abnormal conditions by selecting between two operational modes for every channel. The HOLD LAST VALUE setting maintains the current output state during communication failures or specific fault conditions, allowing processes to continue operating at their last known good value.
Alternatively, the SHED to SAFE VALUE configuration automatically transitions the output to a predetermined safe level when triggered by designated process alarms or system events. Importantly, the system includes a fundamental safety override where outputs will invariably revert to zero—the designated safe state—in the event of complete module electronics failure. This layered approach to output management ensures appropriate responses to varying fault scenarios, balancing process stability needs with essential safety requirements in critical control applications.
