IC693ALG221 Functional Description
The GE IC693ALG221 Analog Current Input Module is a crucial 4-channel analog current input module designed for the Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller system. This versatile module, identified as IC693ALG221 General Electric Analog Input Module, specializes in converting analog current signals from field instruments into precise digital data for PLC processing, supporting standard industrial ranges including 4-20mA and 0-20mA.
The technical performance of the General Electric analog current input module IC693ALG221 is impressive, with each channel featuring a fast conversion speed of 0.5 milliseconds and a high 12-bit resolution, ensuring accurate representation of process variables like pressure, temperature, and flow rates.
Engineered for robust industrial environments, the IC693ALG221 PLC I/O Module General Electric incorporates significant protection features including optical isolation between field wiring and the PLC backplane, tolerance for up to 200V common-mode voltage, and safeguards against out-of-range inputs. The module's design ensures reliable operation in temperatures ranging from -30 to 65°C, making it suitable for challenging factory conditions. Its flexible configuration allows different input ranges across channel pairs using jumper settings, providing adaptability for various application requirements while maintaining precise scaling where 4-20mA corresponds to 0-32,000 counts.
The installation and operation of the 4-Channel Analog Voltage Input module IC693ALG221 are straightforward, with compatibility across all I/O slots in Series 90-30 PLC systems. A status LED provides immediate visual confirmation of proper power supply and functionality. It draws power from the PLC's internal +24VDC and +5VDC supplies, ensuring seamless integration without external power requirements. This combination of precision, protection, and flexibility makes it an essential component for industrial automation applications demanding reliable analog signal acquisition and processing.

Input Protection and Electrical Isolation
The module is designed with robust input protection to ensure reliable operation in the presence of electrical noise and common-mode disturbances. It can tolerate up to 200V of common-mode voltage, guaranteeing stable operation even in electrically noisy environments.
The module utilizes optical isolation for electrical isolation between the field wiring and the PLC backplane. This isolation helps to minimize the effect of externally generated noise on the PLC’s operations, ensuring that the analog signal is accurately converted.
For best performance, it is recommended to use twisted, shielded instrumentation cables for field wiring to minimize capacitive loading and reduce noise interference. The shielding of these cables can be connected either to the COM terminal or the GND terminal. The COM terminal provides access to the common of the analog circuitry, while the GND terminal connects to the baseplate, which serves as the frame ground.
