IC697CPX772 Functional Description
The IC697CPX772 is a Central Processing Unit (CPU) module from Emerson Automation’s Series 90-70 PLC series. This 32-bit module is powered by an 80486DX4 microprocessor, running at a clock speed of 96 MHz, and offers 512 KB of RAM along with 256 KB of non-volatile flash memory. It is equipped with three serial communication ports: Port 1 is an RJ11 connector for RS-232, while Ports 2 and 3 support RS-485 with a 15-pin D-shell connector, with Port 2 featuring optocoupler isolation. The IC697CPX772 Central Processing Unit (CPU) module supports a range of serial protocols, including SNP Slave, Break-Free SNP (Slave), SNPX, and RTU.
This processor is capable of handling up to 2,000 discrete I/O points and 8,000 words of analog I/O. It also supports floating point calculations, ideal for real-world applications requiring decimal precision. The CPU module’s execution speed is impressive, with Boolean instructions processed in just 0.4 microseconds. The IC697CPX772 Central Processing Unit (CPU) module also includes a battery-backed Real-Time Clock (RTC) with an accuracy of ±3.5 seconds per day and an elapsed time clock accuracy of ±0.1%. Its onboard Lithium battery, catalog number IC697ACC701, has a shelf life of 5 years and ensures memory retention for up to 6 months.
With a current draw of 3.1 A and an operating temperature range from 0°C to 60°C, the IC697CPX772 Central Processing Unit (CPU) module is designed for robust industrial environments. The module features a 3-position operation mode switch for easy local configuration and seven status LEDs, including indicators for OK, RUN, and memory protection. Series 90-70 PLC

And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
