1761-NET-AIC Functional Description
The MicroLogix and SLC Communication Adaptor Allen Bradley 1761-NET-AIC is an Advanced Interface Converter designed to enable DF1-enabled devices to communicate over a DH-485 network. It supports seamless integration with MicroLogix 1000, 1200, and 1500 controllers, as well as SLC processors including SLC 5/01, 5/02, and 5/03. With its versatile mounting options, the 1761-NET-AIC Allen Bradley INTERFACE MODULE can be installed either on a DIN rail or directly on a panel, ensuring flexible deployment in various industrial environments.
Equipped with two RS-232 communication ports (9-pin SUB-D and 8-pin mini-DIN connectors) and a DH-485 Phoenix plug, the THERNET INTERFACE MODULE 1761-NET-AIC offers reliable and isolated signal conversion between RS-232 and RS-485 protocols. The device features a front-panel selector switch to configure the appropriate communication data rate, enhancing adaptability to different systems and network requirements.
The 1761 NET-AIC interface converter can be powered via an external 24VDC power supply or through the connected communication cable. When powered through the cable, the switch must be set to "cable," and when using an external source, it must be set to "external." This flexibility ensures compatibility with a wide range of PLCs and operator interface devices.
Functioning as a point-to-point isolator, RS-232 to RS-485 isolator, and ASCII isolator, the Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-AIC MicroLogix controllers supports integration with Logix controllers via the 1756-DH485 module. It is a dependable choice for robust industrial communication.

Powering the Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-AIC Interface Converter
To power the Allen-Bradley 1761-NET-AIC using a communication cable, it must be connected to a MicroLogix or SLC programmable logic controller (PLC). The 8-pin mini-DIN interface is used in this setup, as it carries the required 24VDC to energize the device. When selecting this power method, the unit’s power source switch must be set to the “cable” position to ensure proper operation. If the 1761-NET-AIC is not being powered through the communication cable, it should instead be powered using an external 24VDC power supply. In such cases, the power switch must be adjusted to the “external” setting. This dual-power option enhances the flexibility of installation and usage across various industrial environments, allowing the device to adapt to different controller types and wiring configurations while maintaining efficient operation and system compatibility.
